Home Again

The exhausted team arrived home safely just a little after 12 today and quietly dispersed for their all too short week end.
They have worked hard, for which we are sincerely grateful.
Back to Plett on Monday.

Thursday 5 July

• Common rafters being fitted.

• Tongue and fork joint at the apex fixed with an oak peg.  

• The west annexe will run into this side creating a valley up the roof.

The reward at the end of a hard days work was to drive away and see the silhouette in the dusk on the skyline.

Thursday 28 June - Up, Up and Away

The first spruce bent queen post frame assembled and ready to be lifted into place.
Four in total will be erected, each weighing approximately 3/4 of a tonne.
The frame was assembled in situ and pulled up by a two tonne block and tackle which was securely fixed to a purpose made mast.  The mast towered the frame giving the correct height for pulling the frame up.

Once the frame was erect it was temporarily secured to the existing brick work, waiting to receive the connecting girts and knee braces.
This was repeated with bent frames numbers 2, 3 and 4 until the skeletal frame was complete.
